Volunteer

“I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know—the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.” – Albert Schweitzer

Volunteers are critical to the success of HOBY’s programs. In fact, every year, more than 4,000 men and women throughout the country commit their time, energy, and talents to planning and executing HOBY’s programs – Community Leadership Workshops, Leadership Seminars, the World Leadership Congress, alumni activities and more. Central Pennsylvania utilizes more than 100 volunteers annually.  You can make a difference by contributing your expertise and talents to Central PA HOBY.

Volunteers make a significant impact on the lives of HOBY participants, while also having an opportunity to reevaluate their own life goals and objectives, share their experiences, and have fun! Due to the selfless efforts of these special volunteers, more than 375,000 students have participated in HOBY programs since 1958.

Volunteers come from all backgrounds and experiences to work together toward realizing HOBY’s vision. HOBY volunteers are keynote speakers and guest panelists who challenge students’ ideas about leadership; they are group facilitators who guide participants through their experience; they are advocates who engage local communities and companies to help fund the participants’ program costs; they are recruiters who share the HOBY story and encourage schools to get involved; and they are professionals who serve on the boards and program committees of HOBY state corporations and provide guidance on program planning, marketing, finances and more. With volunteers aged 17 to over 80, HOBY seeks out energetic and driven individuals who want to make a difference, motivate young people, and serve their communities.

If you’d like to volunteer for Central PA HOBY, you can contact Sarah Smith, Leadership Seminar Chair at seminar@hobycentralpa.org, to find out how you can volunteer!

The 2024 Central PA HOBY seminar will be held from May 30-June 2 at Millersville University. Staff will arrive on May 29.

To volunteer on staff, forms will need to be completed.

Central PA HOBY continually plans for the future but never forgets those who impacted its past. Thank you to all of our volunteers who graciously donate their time, money, and energy toward the betterment of America’s young people.

And, behind the scenes, we like to have fun, too:
